DIY: Bouncy Balls

What a beautiful Thursday Morning! Okay some of you may be saying, um no it isn't, maybe it's raining, snowing or the sun is shining brightly. Perhaps the children are running crazy through the house, or the pipes won't stop leaking. Whatever the situation is, I say we make it a Terrific Thursdays. So on this Terrific Thursday and on this day every week Insha Allah, I will share a new and exciting DIY or crafting idea that you can do with your family. How about that, do we have a deal? So... my lovely sisters today's DIY?Craft idea is (Bouncy Balls) you know those things our children go crazy over and always seem to lose, well we are going to make some today. Go grab the kiddos check the materials list and roll up your sleeves. It is time for DIY Thursday!!!

Materials Needed:
  • borax (found in the laundry section of most grocery stores)
  • cornstarch
  • white glue (e.g., Elmer's glue - makes an opaque ball) or blue or clear school glue (makes a translucent ball)
  • warm water
  • food coloring (optional)
  • measuring spoons
  • spoon or craft stick to stir the mixture
  • 2 small plastic containers for mixing
  • marking pen
  • watch with a second hand
  • zip-lock plastic baggie

Procedure:

Step 1:   Label one cup 'Borax Solution' and the other cup 'Ball Mixture'.

Step 2:    In order to make the the borax mixture, pour 2 tablespoons warm water and 1/2 teaspoon borax powder into the cup labeled 'Borax Solution'. Stir the mixture to dissolve the borax. Add food coloring, if desired.

Step 3:   Pour 1 tablespoon of glue into the cup labeled 'Ball Mixture'. Add 1/2 teaspoon of the borax solution you just made and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Do not stir. Allow the ingredients to interact on their own for 10-15 seconds and then stir them together to fully mix. Once the mixture becomes impossible to stir, take it out of the cup and start molding the ball with your hands.

(ball may not come out perfectly round, after all you aren't using a machine

Step 4: The ball will start out sticky and messy, but will solidify as you knead it.

Once the ball is less sticky, you can go ahead and bounce it!!

(Please watch children carefully, do not allow them to eat any of the mixture)

Okay now get out to bouncing with your children and turn whatever type of Thursday you are having into "Terrific Thursday"! As always ladies Enjoy Your Day!
